In 1992 powerful businesswoman Lucinda Walsh brought architect Royce Keller to Oakdale to design her Worldwide Tower. Soon Neal Alcott, a talented painter and graphic designer, began working as head of the art department at Worldwide. Well liked by everyone, no one suspected that Neal was harboring a secret. She and Royce were actually brother and sister, and Lucinda was the half sister they never knew from their late mother's previous marriage. As Neal grew to love Lucinda, Royce could only see in her the similarities to the mother who abused him. Believing the design for the tower to be his finest work, Royce was convinced that Lucinda would fire him if she new his true identity. He persuaded Neal to keep their relationship a secret until he could complete the design.

Meanwhile, Royce began a relationship with Emily Stewart and Neal fell in love with Worldwide executive Scott Eldridge, neither of whom knew their secret. The situation was further complicated by the arrival and subsequent suspicious death of Neal's abusive ex-husband.

Eventually, Neal was forced to reveal the truth to a furious and heartbroken Scott after he heard Royce on her anwering machine. Scott stormed out after Neal mistakenly questioned whether or not he was involved in the accident that killed her ex-husband, only to return later to find her dead, seemingly the victim of murder.

Lucinda was devastated by the loss of Neal and the revelation that Royce's hatred had prevented them from being sisters. It would also be revealed that Royce suffered from multiple personality disorder and that one of his alternate personalities had in fact accidentally killed Neal by shoving her into a fireplace mantle after she discovered his condition and tried to stop him from leaving her apartment. Lucinda was eventually able to form a positive relationship with her half brother after helping him through his recovery.
